EFDRR – COVID-19 and Systemic Risk

Philip Ward took part in a panel discussion at the European Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction (EFDRR) discussing systemic risk and links between COVID-19, climate change, and disaster risk (reduction).

Specific questions addressed were:

  1. Why does understanding the nature of systemic risk matter in the midst of COVID-19?;
  2. What needs to change so that institutions can govern systemic risk?;
  3. What are the best practices in national and local different sectors experiences, which demonstrate integrated pandemic and DRR preparedness and planning?;
  4. What lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic can we take to prepare for and mitigate the impacts of climate change?
